A Message from Executive Director,

Adriana Quiñones

What an exciting month we have in store for August! I know it is hot but this is also when some real magic happens. It is Pollinator Month and we are showcasing everything pollinator. As you read through our newsletter this month, pick out at least one event you will attend. We have something for every age and the tradeoff is you will learn more about pollinators and how important these small members of our world are! Learn also about the great gift our own, hardworking bees give us – Honey!

We are so thankful for our members and visitors. You are the reason we exist and we are all so grateful for how you all have embraced our programming. Every month, we learn so much at our lunch and learn series. And this month will be no different. We love seeing so many of our friends attending but we love seeing new faces too! Make sure to let us know you’re coming so your spot is saved, because these usually sell out.

Our pollinator garden is so full of activity, and you can participate in real citizen science by joining us for the statewide Great Pollinator Census. The data collected in our own garden will help scientists better understand what our native pollinators do. It’s a fun family activity and while you are here, you can explore the rest of the Garden! And speaking of the Garden, we hope you have enjoyed our extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is the last month for extended hours so make sure you come out and enjoy the cooler evenings this month before we return to our normal hours.  Please drop us a line at contactus@columbusbotanicalgarden.org and let us know if you enjoyed the evening hours.

Next month will be our biggest fundraiser of the year – Gala in the Garden! We are so excited to be hosting the newly nationally signed and upcoming sister group, The Castellows, and to have Mr. James Farmer back to teach us about beautiful design. Our tickets go live Aug. 1st and I am sure you do not want to miss this year’s event! Last year, we sold out so make sure to get your tickets early. Our committee is working extra hard to make sure the evening and the luncheon are memorable. All of us here at the Garden, staff, and board are committed to making the garden an indispensable part of the community, and we can only do it with the support of YOU! So mark your calendar now for Sept. 14-15 for our 2023 Gala in the Garden. I hope to see you there and at one of our many events this month as well. Happy Summer!

With Gratitude,

Adriana

Volunteer of the Month, Wade Wallace!

Wade Wallace has been a faithful volunteer and great friend to the Garden for over five years. Our Wade Wallace Pollinator Garden was established in 2020 due to his dedication to the Garden and love for pollinators. Wade has brought caterpillars and butterflies from his own home garden to our kids’ programs. Children light up when he places butterflies on zinnias for them to observe then releases them into our gardens. Wade has volunteered in our vegetable terraces and pollinator garden, led tours for Garden Clubs, and has done various maintenance projects over the years.

Thank you, Wade, for all that you do for Columbus Botanical Garden! We appreciate you!
