Join us this Sunday for a day of fun, community, and play as we bring the Play Streets Macon initiative to the MLK Small + Minority Business District in Historic Greenwood Bottom! Activities will take place along Bay Street from MLK Jr Blvd to Third Street.Neighborhood-led activities include:
Safe car-free space for play, interaction, and socializing. Neighborhood-led activities including sidewalk chalk art, an outdoor living room, BBQs, educational activities, lawn games, and more. Music and entertainment including performances from the Douglass Theatre and Greater Turner Tabernacle AME Church.We invite residents of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to join in the excitement. Let’s come together and make this program a memorable experience for our entire community!What is Play Streets Macon?Play Streets Macon is a community-driven initiative that empowers residents to temporarily close their streets to through traffic, creating a safe space for play, connection, and family-friendly activities. The program is inspired by Bike Walk Macon’s popular Open Streets Macon initiative. Play Streets is a fantastic opportunity to reclaim the streets and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with your neighbors!

Education Spotlight: The Rock DodgeThis is a vital skill for evading obstacles while maintaining your road position.Here’s how:Look Ahead: Spot hazards and gauge their distance to prep for action, all while holding your line.Front Wheel: Control your direction with your front wheel. Swerve around the obstacle and straighten out.Body and Rear Wheel: Stay straight as your bike moves around. To clear the obstacle, shift weight forward.Practice this maneuver to ensure safety. Share with fellow riders and ride with confidence. Let’s conquer challenges together!
We can do better! The recent article in The Hill reveals that Macon-Bibb County is among the top with the worst drivers in the US. Our mission is clear and urgent – to make our streets safer and better for everyone. This is a call to action. Let’s work together to improve street design, implement Vision Zero and Complete Streets, and promote responsible road behavior.

Founded in July 2015, we are Macon-Bibb County’s first grassroots bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization working to enhance mobility to create a more vibrant, healthy, and equitable city. Through community leadership and inclusive engagement, Bike Walk Macon has become the city’s voice for all things biking and walking. We seek to make active transportation an option for all Maconites, no matter where they live or where they’re trying to go.
