A Message from our Executive Director,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. I am so grateful for all our members, volunteers, board, and staff. It is because of your passion and support of the Garden, we have had such a successful year. As we move into this holiday season, I hope all will take some time to find the peace and beauty of the celebration.  Our goal for Shine: A celebration of Nature and Wonder, has always been to offer back to our community a treasured holiday tradition. We want to introduce all to the wonder and beauty of the Garden in a whole new light.  I hope you are making plans to join us. We have so many fun activities and we have partnered with our friends at other local organizations to help us with the celebrations. Make sure to check out our schedule of Shine events. Finally- as we close out the year- I want to personally thank everyone for the support you have shown the Garden. Ireland Trip supporting CBG!

Learn more and see the itinerary

Ten years ago we embarked on our first Ireland adventure. This May 2024 adventure promises to be even better! Our visits to many of Ireland’s very special gardens and Georgian mansions are being organized by Robert O’Byrne. Robert is an extremely entertaining authority on Irish houses in addition to being an accomplished author. He maintains strong connections with many of the “Old Line” Irish families. Our past estate tours with Robert have included lunches/dinners with Lords, Ladies, and Dukes. This special access is rare indeed. Recently, Robert wrote and presented a two-part history of Irish Gardens.

The CBG May tour will visit gardens and stately houses primarily in county Kerry as designated by Robert. Because an enthusiastic response is anticipated and a limited group size, a $250 deposit received by December 20th will hold your place!

Augusta Museum of History Presents
Brown Bag History Lecture – November 8, 2023
21st Century Examples from the Museum’s Collections
Alena Rensch, Augusta Museum of History Registrar, is responsible for collections on exhibition and in storage. She will be the tenth guest speaker for the AMH’s Brown Bag History Lecture Series on 21st Century Turning Points. The program will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. Her lecture on the Museum’s acquisitions in the first two decades of the 21st Century is not one to be missed.

Ms.Rensch is a native of Grovetown and was first introduced to AMH during an elementary field trip. After volunteering in the collections as a high school student, Alena returned to the Museum as the Fitz-Symms Collections Intern after graduating from Georgia State College and University with a degree in History. Since joining the staff in 2020, Alena has pursued a Masters from Kennesaw State University, graduating in 2023. During her tenure at the Museum, she was first promoted to Collections Assistant and now to Registrar.

The Museum is hosting the program in-person in the History Theater on the second floor. The recorded session will be available via the Museum’s Facebook page and YouTube channel later in the week.

Attendees are welcome to arrive at 12:00 PM for the lecture in the theater. The talk will begin at 12:30 PM followed by a brief Q & A. The program is free to members and $5 for non-members.
2023 Brown Bag History Lecture Series

The dictionary defines a turning point as “the point at which a very significant change occurs; a decisive moment.” Sometimes a turning point in history has immediate repercussions, making its significance obvious to people at the time; sometimes, the impact of an event or decision or person is clear only in retrospect.

The 2023 Brown Bag History Lecture Series examines some of the significant changes that have impacted the Augusta River Region during the first two decades of this century.

Follow the Museum on Facebook and Instagram for updates on upcoming programs. Additional information on future presentation topics is also available on the Museum’s website.
