Submission Process:
Submissions accepted June 15 – August 15, 2014
1.
Entries
shall be original, unpublished literary works in the genre of a short
story, flash prose/creative fiction, essay, biography or memoir. No
poetry will be accepted.
2.
Entries
must be in English, titled and limited to 750 words. Font size 12,
Times New Roman, and double spacing are preferred for ease of reading.
3.
Mail a typed copy of the entry as an email document, not a pdf, a
submission form and check for entry fee to: Georgia Writers Museum
Contest; P.O. Box 3429; Eatonton, GA 31024.
4.
When
submission is received, you will be contacted via email with
instructions on submitting an electronic copy.
5.
Entry
fee is $20 per submission. Limit 3 entries per author.
6.
Age –
must be 18 years or older as of June 15, 2014 to enter.
7.
The
author agrees to give the Georgia Writers Museum
permission to publish their entry for the purposes of publicity,
marketing and promotion without regard to copyright infringement.
Judging Process
Entries with no identifying information will be distributed
electronically to a committee of 3 sub-judges. These judges are
teachers, journalists and/or published authors in the literary field.
Each sub-judge will submit their top three selections to the Chief
Judge. The Chief Judge has substantial literary credentials. The Chief
Judge will read the selections and make final award selections. All
decisions of the judges are final.
Awards
An Awards Reception
will be held for writers and guests on Friday, October 10, 2014.
Prizes:
First Prize winner will be awarded $125.00 in cash. The winner
will also be interviewed by Lakelife Magazine, and upon signing a
release to Lakelife, may be published in a future edition.
Second Prize: $75 cash; Third Prize: $50 cash; Honorable
Mention: Ribbon
All winning entries will be published in a Contest Brochure. Entries
may be published in the Eatonton Messenger/Lake Oconee News for
publicity purposes.
